PE Sketchbook Excerpt - Spike by dixey PE Sketchbook Excerpt - Spike by dixey
PE = Private Exchange, an invite only art trade group. The sketchbook exchange was one where we filled 50 pages or more for our assigned person. The sketchbook I filled was for * brianne333, and Spike (James Marsters) was on the list of things she would like drawn... so I drew Spike :P

Anyway, I used a photo reference, but I lost the link to the picture. Sorry. I'm fairly certain it's just a run of the mill type publicity shot... it was one of the first I came across in my search, at any rate. I used 8 markers - 2 greys, 2 flesh tones, 2 for hair and one each for the shirt and background. There was a rough pencil underdrawing that you can see hints of if you try, but it was mostly a big oval with circles for eyes, a circle for the end of his nose and some sketches for where his mouth went ;) I basically just went to town with the markers for a few hours.

I don't do a lot of realism or drawing from references, but I was pretty happy with the result :P
Prismacolor markers on cardstock. Completed in November.

You know, I've been looking at this every single day since I got it from you (seriously, don't believe me - ask David haha!) and it STILL impresses me. I love this piece so much, that when I write about Chaz, I have that picture open now because it brings me so much inspiration. I am amazed at the kind of work you did with MARKERS and how much it looks like him. I will forever hold this close to my heart, knowing you put so much effort into something for me, I will treasure it always <3
:iconlady-silvercat: hottness! And in MARKERS! You did him so well. Really it looks fabulous. Now if I could only get my marker colorings to look like they weren't done by a 5 year old...heh.
